Sharron Angle and Harry Reid to Face Off in First and Only Senate Debate

Nevada Senate candidates Harry Reid and Sharron Angle will face off in Las Vegas tonight, in what will be the first and only debate in one of the campaign season's most contentious electoral contests.

The two candidates are currently locked in a dead heat, according to a recent Rasmussen poll, which puts Angle ahead by one point at 49 percent to 48 percent. The two candidates have traded negligible leads in the past seven consecutive Rasmussen polls: Angle and Reid have each held the "edge" in three of those polls, and in one the two tied at 48 percent. Neither candidate has surpassed the 50 percent mark or held a lead outside the margin of sampling error.

CBS currently rates the contest a toss up.

Tonight is seen as a potentially pivotal opportunity for both candidates to zero in on economic policy issues, reinforce their commitment to the Nevada electorate, and - notably - combat a cycle of non-stop, highly negative and often personal attack ads that have questioned both candidates' political backgrounds and ethical credibility.

Reid has hammered home the idea that Angle, who has said she wants to eliminate the Department of Education and phase out Social Security, is "wild" and "too extreme for any rational person on the planet."

Angle, for her part, has repeatedly painted the 24-year incumbent as an establishment candidate with low-grade morals: When asked by a New York Times reporter about Reid's campaign, Angle said, "The best that I could give you is that the message has changed from hope and change to fear and smear."

Both candidates have gaffe-prone histories: Reid was recently caught calling his colleague, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, the "hottest" senator, and has in the past made cringe-worthy statements related to President Obama's race. Angle, in turn, has slyly referred to the possibility that voters could take to "Second Amendment remedies" if Reid were to be re-elected, and has cited a "militant terrorist situation" in some American cities.

The race has become a disproportionately nationalized affair, and both candidates have drummed up significant economic and political support from their party establishments. Former President Bill Clinton is one of several prominent Democrats who have been spotted stumping for Reid in Nevada, and Angle recently reported a stunning $14 million third-quarter fundraising results.

Nevada tops the national standing in both joblessness and foreclosure rates: Unemployment in the state is 14.4 percent (almost 5 points up from the national average of 9.6 percent) and 13,000 homeowners received foreclosure notices in August alone, according to the Boston Globe.

More than 70 journalists are expected at the debate, which will air tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on PBS. The moderator will be Mitch Fox, host of Nevada Week in Review.

I am hoping that Majority Leader Reid goes into today's debate overconfident actually thinking that Sharron Angle is meat head. The Majority Leader will be blown away by Angle if he does! This lady is very intelligent, and does not USUALLY come off too extreme. He is going to have his hands full. What is for sure is the importance of this debate. In the last 4 polls the Majority Leader has pulled, 46%, 48%, 46%, and 47%. These Conservative Right-Wing voters are not actually going to write-in that far Right-Wing Tea Party Candidate. In the end they will vote for Angle, so Senator Reid needs to convince at least 5% of Moderate Nevada voters to switch to him from currently Angle. He does not deserve to win.

The more likely possibility is that Sharron Angle's total lack preparation before the complete press up to this point will result in a deer in the headlights moment for her with Harry Reid outperforming her at every turn -- as Chris ***** did with Christine O'Donnell yesterday. FYI Scott Ashjian's name does not need to be "written in" -- It actually is PRINTED ON THE BALLOT -- how many more lies (or times will you prove your ignorance) in your postings today? http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/oct/06/ashjian-remain-ballot-tea-party-candidate/

Nevada regulators are giving Wells Fargo free pass to commit mortgage fraud and defraud homeowners like us. Wells Fargo made us fraudulent mortgage loan and foreclose our home based onfraudulent appraisal. Wells Fargo teamed up with its attorneys and spent last 4 years in Nevada courts defending its appraisal and mortgage fraud. Wells Fargo and its attorneys knew it?s Category C Felony to make mortgage loan based on fraudulent appraisal. Wells Fargo and its attorneys knew it?s Category C Felony to foreclose home based on fraudulent appraisal. Wells Fargo chose to violate the law and chose to defraud us. Hold Wells Fargo Accountable! Actually Wells Fargo foreclosed on you because you didn't make your mortgage payments. Questions: didn't you use a realtor or a lawyer when you purchased your property? Didn't you do a comparable survey on properties in the area? Didn't you read your mortgage statement prior to signing? How many surveys were made on the property that you couldn't live without? Could it be that you are just trying to scam the system?

Harry Reid has done nothing but continually ignore our fine state to serve his personal interests. This is why our senior senator who has immense influence in congress has stood by and passively watched our states unemployment rates become the highest of any western state. Now with his job on the line, he comes rushing in like a caped crusader and touts such stellar economic plans as a high-speed rail system. How will this help you and I find work today? Is this another shovel-ready project minus the shovels and ready? One thing you can believe, is if we are ignorant enough to re-elect him, he will head back to DC and forget about us like he always has. Harry is a user, but he is done using me.

Nevada's unemployed who would vote for a person who would vote to deny them unemployment benefits is insanity redefined. Nevada's voters must remember that it was the republican party who filibustered unemployment benefits as the unemployed went without checks for weeks. Angle is not a good person.

Does Senator Reid reflect the voters of Nevada? Majority Leader Reid has not stood against one issue of the Obama Administration. He has passed every Leftist leaning package that President Obama has asked him to vote on. A real leader would have gone to the President and said, "Mr. President this part of the stimulus package the Republicans are correct about, it is too extreme." On the Health Care package a real leader would have gone to the President and said, "Mr. President, it is not in the best interests of the United States to legally force people to BUY HEALTH INSURANCE." Majority Leader Reid has failed to show true leadership in the Senate. Not only that, the worst threat in the United States for REAL PEOPLE, is the thread of losing our jobs, the National Unemployment Rate of 9.6%-9.8% is unacceptable on a National level, and the Majority Leader has failed to do anything about this. Instead, Nevada, the home state of Majority Leader Reid leads the way in the worst unemployment rate in the nation of 14.4%. This is one race that almost every Rebuplican, most Independents, and Moderates want to see Senator Reid lose in, and Sharron Angle become the Senator of Nevada. Majority Leader Reid is not a wise leader, not good for the United States, and does not represent the state of Nevada.

Will Sharron Angle use the Palin debate style -- ignore the questioner and parrot 30 second sound bytes? Or will she employ her personal style to run off the stage every time she is asked a question and only to return during Harry Reid's questions to parrot more 30 second sound bytes.

Dingy Harry and his closed door antics and backroom dealings are much more dangerous for our country than anything Angle has come up with. Harry helped close the Yucca Mountain project in Neveda costing hundreds of jobs,a 22 year 13 billion dollar project dumped at his urging to Obama.
